On April 1, 2013 WHO announced human infections in China caused by an avian virus (H7N9) that until this spring had only been associated with low pathogenic poultry infections. This virus causes severe respiratory disease in humans. Currently, 49 people living in East and North China have been infected and 11 of those individuals have died.
